42. How to leverage rest, quality sleep, and ease during times of overwhelm
This week, the shit we need to talk about is: when we are experiencing collective overwhelm, exhaustion, and injustice, we have got to leverage rest, quality sleep, and taking it easy to cope, to be in it, and to keep going day after day, and move through it.
Beyond navigating current events, these practices are essential when we’re managing everyday stress, going through tough personal times, and also just living every day in capitalism and a culture built on white supremacy. That’s the real real and there’s just no way around it.
I am not saying these practices are going to make witnessing one horror after another easier or that they’re going to make a significant impact in our collective overwhelm. But what I AM saying is that these practices are necessary for us to be present in the moment, process and digest what we can, and keep going… in the fight for justice AND through every day life. Because the reality is here in the west, unfortunately no matter what goes on, the world keeps turning and we gotta pay our bills as we work to tear the systems down.
AND. In order to pull ourselves up despite the overwhelm, in order to keep showing up to ourselves, each other, our work, and the fight for justice in spite of the overwhelm, we have got to leverage rest, quality sleep, and ease.
The offerings of practices in this episode are fall-inspired and include:
Hobbies
Quiet time
Time to yourself or of YOUR choosing!
Be out in nature
A variety of rest practices (so much more than napping and sleeping!)
Coming back to some practices we’ve discussed in recent episodes (your morning routine, pacing yourself and pausing throughout the day, gradually powering down at the end of the day)
Evening rituals before bed
Jump in for all the goodness!
