45. Meeting the resistance to resting

Winter’s darkness tends to be really challenging for a lot of people, and those difficulties can happen in different ways. For some people, it’s kind of the same cycle year after year with the same challenge or challenges and for others, it changes based on how they’re experiencing life.

This week, the shit we need to talk about is how necessary uncovering any discomfort, difficulty, or challenges that happen for you every winter in your mental, emotional, physical, or energetic health. Because the reality is, some of the stuff we sweep under the rug is still present, bubbling under the surface, sometimes even festering through the rest of the year!

The main way we deal with all of this: rest. But it’s not always easy. Even liberation and social change-focused people like us who KNOW that rest is necessary can struggle with some aspects of embodying darkness as restful and restorative. Of course, that can be due to our conditioning from dominant culture, the systems in place, as well as your natural energetic nature. And still, we have to do it anyway.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How winter’s energy can support us… and also aggravate us - and why!

  • How our natural energetic nature affects our relationship with rest.

  • Leaning on yoga philosophy’s ethical discipline of brahmacharya (energy management) for guidance.

  • How to honor winter’s dormant vibe and invitation to slow down, to turn inward, to rest, reflect, rejuvenate in ways that works for us as individuals.

  • How to meet resistance when it comes to resting and work through discomfort with doing it anyway.

Jump in for all the goodness!
